I'm two months into the role and can definitely sense a lack of formalised processes around product marketing and as my backlog continues to grow by the day, I want to make sure I've got the right tools and prioritisation in order to make the most impact. This is also my first fully remote role since Covid and there are a lot of "unknown unknowns" so any advice on how to "get what I need" from other departments will be of massive help.
Would like to learn from best-practice and advice from specialists and other PMs that potentially are on the same boat. I would love to come out with more confidence on what to prioritise and how to tackle my backlog in a company that while fast-growing is starting to show small legacy issues. And finally be confident in relating all of this to our OKRs to demonstrate as much impact as possible so as to not fall in the trap of being the go to for making pretty documents.
I recently joined Data & AI Literacy Academy as their first Product Marketing hire. The company was 14th on the LinkedIn Top Startups 2025 list for the UK and is now entering its scale up phase. While I'm not quite building a function from scratch, it is something that I might have the opportunity to do in the future as the company grows. It is also my first specialised role after being a generalist for the first 7 years of my career and while I've touched upon product marketing before, I can definitely feel there is still a learning curve for me and any support I can get will be highly beneficial. The free resources and newsletters have already been a huge help!
