I work for a scale up that has recently been very successful because of changes to legislation that have driven (huge) demand for its products - namely age and identity verification. That's in part because of a leadership team that had the vision and foresight of the regulatory and technology changes years back, but they also developed a distinct brand and have done some effective product marketing. However, with the pace of growth, the classic scale up challenge of moving from quick reactive ways of working "just get it done" to more tried and trusted processes "make this repeatable and manageable (and effective)" is proving difficult. Some product and sales teams work with product marketing really well, and others less so. So having frameworks and tools that I can scale to bring some more order to the chaos, I think would help us improve overall GTM, as well as making things like product launches, repositioning, messaging updates, use case developments much more effective.
My role is a 12 month contract with the potential to go permanent, which I would like it to, and I hope that by demonstrating more capability in the PMM role this would increase my chances.
I have been a PMM Jetpack subscriber for more than a year, and followed Jason for a long time on LinkedIn + the newsletter. The library, its content and the general advice is always very actionable, which I've found super useful both in being able to move into PMM roles (I was more of a digital/campaigns marketer earlier in my career), and also doing the job effectively. As I prioritise marketing effectiveness over almost anything else in the discipline, I'd like to take that a step further but participating in the PMM foundry.
