McMorrow
Two stand out right now: 1) I need to get everyone on the internal team on board with this new function - what PMM is, why it matters, and how it supports other parts of the company. 2) There hasn't been a marketing function before; the whole team was made up of developers, product managers, and customer success only. I think the biggest challenge will be building the basic marketing foundation for this org while tracking metrics/effectiveness. And - no sales team (I pointed out earlier my background is in sales enablement...).
Confidence, ideas, industry insights. I think of myself in "sponge" mode right now - looking to absorb everything I can.
I'm a solo founding PMM at a startup. My PMM background is primarily in Sales Enablement. A few months ago, I left my previous company to join a startup that has no marketing, let alone product marketing. This is a big stretch for me, as I'll start dabbling in parts of the role that I'd only watched or supported. I'll lead the creation of the entire marketing structure at a time when the company is still finding its footing. I don't have internal peers to lean on; joining this coaching cohort would help me see how other PMMs operate efficiently in their industries. I've found myself in a wild, crazy opportunity, and I just hope to learn.
